You can not seal the top so it is always open and can spill out. With the hole in the top this keeps the coffee from staying hot. This tumbler doesn't seal therefore it doesn't keep your coffee hot. April 1, 2013

great mug! This mug feels very durable and keeps beverages hot. The only drawback (which does NOT bother me) is the the plastic top scratched very easily when I dried with using a paper towel. Overall I am very pleased with this purchase and would definitely recommend it to friends and strangers alike. March 13, 2013
