West Java, due to the volcanic mountains forming an East-West spine across the island, presents itself uniquely from East Java home to customer favorite Blue Java.
Grown on the West side of the island of Java this coffee exemplifies the pronounced geographical differences between the two sides, with more rainfall, higher humidity and generally cooler temperatures on the West side.
While coffee production in this area dates back to the Dutch colonial era (16th century onwards) the production of this semi-washed coffee really only commenced at the turn of the millennium.
Of the thousands of coffees we encounter in our search for the best, only a precious few are deemed exceptional enough to become Starbucks Reserve® coffees, offered only for limited times at select stores.
- Product Details
Sweet, herbal complexity with a silky milk chocolate flavor and texture.
These beans flourish on Java’s west side, where abundant rainfall and cooler temperatures create a marked difference in climate from the island’s eastern half, home to the more established coffee-growing estates.
To tend to their coffee trees, cultivated high upon a remote volcanic slope, smallholder farmers must travel by foot. Once harvested, the beans are diligently carried down the rugged terrain for processing. The resulting cup is a testament to the farmers hard work and dedication.
This special Starbucks Reserve® coffee is in very limited supply and only available at select stores.
