It’s the incredible taste in cup that creates a strong loyalty for sun-dried, or naturally processed coffees, especially our Sun-Dried Ethiopia Sidamo®. In the sun-drying process, the coffee cherries are allowed to dry on raised drying beds in the sun where they absorb flavor notes from the fruit as it dries around them.

Unlike other regions in Ethiopia, such as Harrar or Yergacheffee, Sidamo is known for its elegant washed coffees. Sun-drying coffees from Sidamo is relatively new with much of the influence a direct result of our coffee buyers working in close partnership with local farmers in 2005 and encouraging them to take a portion of their highest quality beans and apply the sun-drying process to them. It was a risk for the farmers and the result was amazing, solidifying future lots of this remarkable coffee.

Of the thousands of coffees we encounter in our search for the best, only a precious few are deemed exceptional enough to become Starbucks Reserve® coffees, offered only for limited times at select stores.

Starbucks Reserve® Sun-Dried Ethiopia Sidamo®

Every sip is sumptuous, the result of processing high-quality coffee using the sun-dried (natural) method. Beans are spread on raised beds in full sun with the cherry still on, absorbing the fruit’s flavors as it dries. We started collaborating in 2005 with local farmers willing to sun dry some of their best pickings, unusual in the Sidamo region where the more consistent washed method is common. After attempts and their unwavering dedication, success was ours together.

This special Starbucks Reserve® coffee is in very limited supply and only available at select stores.

My all-time favorite coffee The Ethiopian Sidamo is by far my most favorite coffee that Starbucks has ever offered. Nothing else compares to it. I only wish that it was still available in the Starbucks stores like it used to be a few years ago. April 3, 2013

Flavorful and Full Bodied The sun dried version of the Ethiopian Sidano has a very rich and very dark taste. Slightly bitter but not overpowering the subtle undercurrents of flavors unique to this coffee. When combined together with Sumatran and Kenyan makes a rich strong, smooth, full bodied flavor and aroma. March 28, 2013
