Just 40 miles wide at its narrowest point, Panama has coffee trees impacted by Atlantic and Pacific ocean climates. High on the south-facing slope of Panama’s Volcán Barú, a small section of picturesque hillside has been designated as a coffee micro-region called Paso Ancho. In Paso Ancho, excess humidity brought by either ocean is mitigated by dry winds that channel up from the plains towards Volcán Barú, Panama's highest peak and only volcano. From its summit, one can survey sweeping ocean views and look down upon spectacular cloud forests.

Of the thousands of coffees we encounter in our search for the best, only a precious few are deemed exceptional enough to become Starbucks Reserve® coffees, offered only for limited times at select stores.

Paso Ancho, a designated micro-region high on Panama’s Volcán Barú, is home to this fantastic coffee.

High on the south-facing slope of Panama’s Volcán Barú, a small section of picturesque hillside has been designated as a coffee micro-region called Paso Ancho. The limited harvest comes from award winning Carmen Estate and several neighboring farms. Low-yielding trees allow the cherries to ripen with an astonishing uniformity, while sunny days, frost-free nights and the rich, volcanic soil of Panama's highest peak, looming high above the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, provide the perfect enviroment for this coffee to develop its amazing character.

This Starbucks Reserve® coffee is available only at select times and stores, so be sure to enjoy it when you can.

Love this coffee This is a very smooth and satisfying coffee, that is also surprisingly complex. The slight pepper notes made this a favorite after-dinner, during-dessert coffee in my house. One of my new favorites. Starbucks partner. November 26, 2012
Lemony & Smooth This coffee is not to be missed while offered. It is smooth and no aftertaste. I tried it a month ago, and had to order another bag. Great coffee to sip while relaxing. November 21, 2012
Excellent taste. In the past I have had coffee from Colombia, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Jamaica, France, Italy and Arab coffee and I can say for sure this Panama coffee is so good, it has perfect taste, smooth and has a fresh aroma. November 20, 2012
Not deserving of "reserve" rating My husband and I are "coffee snobs" so I was excited to try the "lemony and peppery flavors". Well as far as we could tell there wasn't much flavor at all to this coffee. Even the beans smelled underwhelming. This was a major disappointment. October 30, 2012
Great tasting coffee Still searching for coffee as good as the original Starbuck's House Blend. This coffee was really good - but it wasn't a match. I'll keep looking. I wonder if anyone knows what I'm talking about. The House Blend seemed to change around 2007. October 21, 2012
