The Franceschi Family of Carmen Estate pays extra special attention to processing their coffee cherries. They take great pride in picking only bright red cherries (leaving unripe beans to be harvested at a later time) and ensuring that once picked, cherries are transported from the field to the mill to be processed immediately. All of this attention to detail results in a beautiful cup of coffee, sparkling and bright, with pronounced flavors of floral and citrus.
The Volcan Valley is considered by many to be the most important area for mountain and shade grown coffee plantations of the Baru Volcano region in Panama. This micro-region is heavily influenced by its proximity to both the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean. The cool, frost-free nights coupled with dry, sun-drenched days and rich volcanic soil, create optimal growing conditions for coffee.
Of the thousands of coffees we encounter in our search for the best, only a precious few are deemed exceptional enough to become Starbucks Reserve® coffees, offered only for limited times at select stores.

Elegant with distinct floral and lemony citrus complexity and a praline sweetness.
For the first time, we have the opportunity to offer coffee exclusively grown and milled on the acclaimed Carmen Estate, a family owned business located in the Volcan Valley of Panama. This estate coffee is highly sought after in the specialty coffee market, so much so that their 1,200 bags of green coffee beans are typically presold year after year. This year, our relationship with the supplier, initiated with the Starbucks Reserve® Panama Paso Ancho coffee, allowed us the opportunity to lock in early on the highest level quality lots from the harvest.
