Producer:  Single-origin coffee from Colombia’s Cauca Department

Elevation:  1,200-1,800 meters

Coffee Variety:  Caturra and Typica

Processing Method:  Washed

This is Starbucks first single-origin coffee from Colombia’s Cauca Department (or “state”), an area historically significant for its gold mining--and coffee growing. The capital of Cauca--Popayan--was founded in 1537 by Sebastian Belalcazar, a Spanish adventurer seeking the famed El Dorado City of Gold, but today, it is the coffees from Cauca that enjoy fame and fortune. Soaked by annual rainfall of 80 inches or more and blossoming in a cooler climate, this coffee has a longer harvest season, which has created a richer, more intense flavor of sweet walnut and delicate cocoa notes, accompanied by high herbal aromas.

Of the thousands of coffees we encounter in our search for the best, only a precious few are deemed exceptional enough to become Starbucks Reserve® coffees, offered only for limited times at select stores.

  • Product Details

These coffee beans are among the most sought-after offerings in Colombia.

For the first time we bring you a single-origin coffee from Cauca, an area settled by conquistadors in search of the legendary city of gold and long recognized for producing these premium, large Supremo beans – which account for only 10% of Colombia’s total coffee harvest. The Department of Cauca, which lies in the Western Andes, is graced with an annual rainfall of 80 inches and a cooler climate, giving these beans a longer growing season and more intense, fully developed flavors.

This Starbucks Reserve® coffee is available only at select times and stores, so be sure to enjoy it when you can.

SON IS RAVING ABOUT THIS COFFEE! I ACTUALLY BOUGHT THIS COFFEE FOR MY SON, WHO IS VERY PARTICULAR ABOUT COFFEE AND WILL NOT DRINK JUST ANY COFFEE. HE IS QUITE THE CRITIC IF HE DOESN'T LIKE A COFFEE. HE CALLED ME AND WAS RAVING ON THE TASTE AND QUALITY OF COLUMBIA SUPREMO VALLEY OF GOLD. HE LOVES IT! I GUESS I MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE AND AM SO HAPPY HE APPROVES! NOW I WILL HAVE TO BUY SOME FOR MYSELF. November 29, 2012
Awesome!!!! The SB Description of the coffee pretty much hits the nail on the head, although I personally didn't notice any herbal notes. I did notice that there was no bitterness or acidic texture, it was very smooth and would make a great dessert coffee or that very first cup in the morning to start the day with a smile. What coffee should be Very rarely do I buy special or reserve coffee. Decided to try the Columbia for fun. SO GLAD I DID! This coffee is smooth and not at all bitter or overwheming. I was very surprised. As another reviewer mentioned, it's palatable black. I'll have to buy another bag, or two, and treat myself on occasion. October 21, 2012
Great cup of coffee This is now one of my favorite coffees. At first sip it's warm and nutty followed by a cocoa mouthfeel. I could drink this coffee all day! October 11, 2012
Very nice Colombian is not my regular pick but I do enjoy the full bodied texture of this coffee. October 8, 2012
