A blend of coffees from Latin America and Asia Pacific, Espresso Roast has a dense, caramel-like sweetness and smooth, satisfying finish.
With the help of Starbucks coffee pods, it's easy to create your favorite espresso beverage at home. Each pod is filled with fresh-roasted, ground and tamped Starbucks Espresso Roast, so there's no measuring, no grinding, no mess. Just a consistently delicious shot of espresso, every time. The coffee pods can be used with Starbucks Barista® and Starbucks Barista Athena Espresso Machines and most other espresso machines.
What is an espresso pod?
A pod is a measured portion of ground espresso, compressed between two biodegradable filter paper sheets. By using an espresso maker specifically designed for use with pods, the pod allows anyone to make an excellent shot of espresso in no time. Pods are easy to use, convenient and mess free, providing a consistently delicious freshly brewed shot of espresso.
Starbucks espresso pods measure 54 mm across from the edge of the filter paper to the other. It is 43 mm across the section containing the coffee and 9 mm thick. Each pod contains 7 grams of coffee, enoough for one shot of espresso. Starbucks Espresso Roast pods can be used with most home espresso machines. The pods will fit in all espresso machines accepting E.S.E. (Easy Serving Espresso) pods.
Espresso pods are not compatible with single-serve pod coffee makers, such as Philips Senseo, Melitta One:One, Bunn My Cafe or Mr. Coffee HomeCafe
More about this coffee: The heart and soul of Starbucks. Versatile because of its delicious flavor, Espresso Roast imparts a subtle sweetness. It's roasted somewhat darker than traditional Italian espresso blends, and works as well in your home machine as it does in those of our stores.

Love my Barista machine and pods! Wouldn't recommend because the only place to get the pods is on line!! I went to 4 different stores looking for them, finally the last store suggested I order them online. Now I worry they will be discontinued! YIKES!
Its the packaging - the quality is not there
1. the pods do not have those little perforations that allow the water to flow through - therefore filling your cup is slow and it is not as easy to figure out which side goes up
2. the pack for the pod is hard to tear open
3. the box the pods come in - i don't know what it is, but
the bottom of the box had been glued off center - i had to open and center it on the box and use scotch tape to secure it closed, so i could stack it in the cupboard - i don't know, it is all about quality
4. none of the starbucks have had pods to sell - very inconvenient
I have been buying these pods for the past couple of months and they have always been great. I recently tried a "sampler" from anopther store, and have to tell you, Starbucks wins!!
The pods that work are great. The espresso is delicious. Unfortunately, only about one of every two pods actually works. Some of them are packed in such a way that water can't penetrate, so I end up with a shot of light brown liquid with no flavor. I have to rip open the extremely hot pod and put the wet grounds into the portafilter, after which I can extract a fine shot.
Clearly quality control is an issue with the manufacture of these pods.
