Darjeeling is one of the most refined tastes for tea. It usually has a very smooth and refined taste. That is, when it is not almost two years old. Tea is at its best when it is fresh. As tea ages it looses that great taste that we all drink tea for.
The loose leaf tea that I received was package almost two years prior to my receiving it. The expiration date was less than 1 and half months in the future.
What did the tea taste like? It had very little is any taste due to it's age. I called Starbucks and explained my frustration. They apologized and gave me a gift certificate in the amount of the cost of this tea. While this is good customer service, I am surprised that they would ship such old tea. Especially when they are presenting this as a premium tea.
I usually am a Twinings tea drinker due to cost and availablity. The Twinings Darjeeling loose leaf, which is mostly chopped leafs and not full leafs, had so much more flavor. I wanted to get some FRESH Tazo Darjeeling from Starbucks, but the nice man on the other end of the phone said he is not connected with the warehouse, which only gets autoshipped product from Starbucks.
If you are tempted to try this tea, please check the expiration date and packaked date when you receive the product. If the pack date was more than six months prior you will NOT be tasting the full potential of the tea.
