Recipe for great coffee

  1. Use cold, filtered water and a clean machine.
  2. Grind beans just before brewing:
    • Coarse for coffee press
    • Medium for automatic drip
  3. Measure 2 tbsp (10 g) ground coffee for every 6 fl oz (180 ml) water.

To help preserve that fresh flavor, keep this bag sealed tight in a cabinet (not in the refrigerator) and brew within a week of opening.

Each coffee requires slightly different amounts of time and temperature during the roasting process to create a cup at its peak of aroma, acidity, body and flavor. We classify our coffees in three roast profiles so you can easily find your desired flavor and intensity.

  • Blonde: Blonde-roasted coffees have a shorter roast time, lighter body and mellow flavors.
  • Medium: Medium-roasted coffees are balanced with smooth and rich flavors.
  • Dark: Dark-roasted coffees feature a fuller body and robust, bold flavors.

Kenya’s high altitudes, ideal climate and strong traditions have helped put premium Kenyan coffees like this one among the world’s most treasured. And as it did when we introduced it in 1971, Kenya continues to astound our expert tasters and customers alike with flavors not commonly ascribed to coffee. Bright with a juicy acidity, low wine notes and fruity flavors—ranging from black currant and blackberry to tart grapefruit—that become more pronounced as the coffee cools, Kenya is delicious served over ice and an important ingredient in our iced-coffee blends.

Delightful expression of East African coffee! This is a delightful coffee. Starbucks Kenya has a wonderful citrus aroma not commonly found in coffees from other origins. The citrus notes are present in the cup which gives this coffee a nice, bright and clean acidity that comes across as juiciness. Do not mistake acidity to mean sour. Think tangerines. Also worth noting is that this coffee has little to no bitterness. This makes Starbucks Kenya a great jumping off point for those trying to identify a coffee they really like as bitterness turns a lot of people off to coffee. For me, this is simply a delightful coffee. I really appreciate the juiciness and the clean profile. I enjoy pairing this coffee with fresh fruit such as oranges, tangelos, tangerines, and gala apples. I will even pair this coffee with dried cranberries. As always, don't forget the 4 Fundamentals of brewing coffee: proportion, grind, water and freshness. 2 tbsp. ground coffee for every 6 oz. of water. Medium grind for automatic coffee maker, coarse grind for French press (my favorite way to brew this coffee). Coffee is 98% water. Bad tasting water will produce bad tasting coffee. Use fresh, clean water that is filtered or free of impurities. Avoid softened water. Starbucks coffee is packaged in Flavor-Loc bags so freshness is guaranteed. Once opened, coffee needs to be stored away from light and oxygen. Use your coffee within 1-2 weeks to assure the best flavor. Lastly, enjoy your coffee the way you like it. I like mine without or cream or sugar. If you like cream and sugar with your coffee then by all means add cream and sugar. It's your coffee and only you have to like it. Enjoy! April 15, 2014
Totally worthwhile! Wonderful, smooth and makes it nearly impossible to go back to my weekday coffee. Thank you for your commitment to top-notch coffee! I will 'have arrived' when I can afford Kenya and Casi Cielo every day! April 15, 2014
Distinctive Flavor I've tried a number of medium-roast Starbucks whole-bean coffees. The Kenya single-country coffee has a very pleasant, distinctive flavor and an attractive slightly reddish color, well worth the small premium over Pike Place, my former favorite. To me, it's a more interesting coffee than the other single-country coffees. Possibly some of the reserve coffees are even better but they're beyond my pay grade. I also use Starbucks Pikes Peak and several dark roast K-cups, which I find to be very noticeably superior to competing brands. April 14, 2014
It all tastes the same I tried this in the hopes that the Starbucks "char" wouldn't be present, I was wrong. Starbucks is the only roaster I can find that roasts Kenya to an oily shine. C'mon Starbucks, do you have to roast everything past the second crack…. January 31, 2014
Great, strong brew! Great strong coffee, medium blend that tastes like a bold! January 25, 2014
